Ready to Read
A Confident Start on the Road to Reading!
Ready to Read is designed for children who have already started building a strong literacy foundation and are eager to move beyond letters and sounds to begin reading with confidence. This small-group class focuses on phonemic awareness, a critical early reading skill and one of the strongest predictors of later reading success. Phonemic awareness involves identifying and manipulating individual sounds in words - for example, changing the /m/ in mat to /s/ to make sat.
The class is designed to meaningfully reinforce classroom learning, giving children extra time to practice, play, and grow in a supportive environment. Ready to Read is a great fit for children who know most letter names and their corresponding sounds, are beginning to blend sounds into words, and are ready for more structured early reading practice that still feels fun and developmentally appropriate.
In this class, children will:
Strengthen phonemic awareness through fun, interactive games and activities
Practice blending and segmenting simple CVC words (e.g., cat, bug, sip)
Build reading fluency using decodable high-frequency words
Boost comprehension and storytelling skills through engaging read-alouds
Be exposed to high frequency irregularly spelled words
Ready to Read is currently offered privately and as an enrichment class at select private schools.
